Welcome to the Stebbins-Swayne House B&B in the heart of "Small Town Friendly", Historic Kennett Square, PA, near Longwood Gardens in the beautiful Brandywine Valley
hether you are a history lover or not, you will certainly enjoy the history and the ambiance of the 1850's while visiting the Stebbins-Swayne House Bed and Breakfast in the national Historic District of Kennett Square just minutes from Longwood Gardens.
This Georgian style house was built in 1842. The warm and cozy atmosphere will take you back to a quieter time where you can relax and forget the hustle and bustle of the 21st century. A block and a half walk will take you to the center of Kennett Square amidst art galleries, restaurants and many specialty shops. Return for afternoon tea in the formal dining room or outside porches or patio. Stroll in the tranquil gardens, relaxing and daydreaming. Engage in conversations with your innkeeper about history and events of the 1850's.
It's always a great time to visit Kennett Square!
The best thing about Kennett Square is that it's a small town that invites you to walk around and explore it historic buildings, one-of-a-kind shops and galleries and its wonderful restaurants... all a short drive from the Brandywine Valleys cultural attractions.
A Lot to Enjoy Right in Town
Are you a wine lover? Try the Brandywine Valley Wine Trail with seven wineries on the tour, all close to my house. I've done the trail...it's fun and tasty. Art lover? It's always a great time to visit the local museums. You can enjoy works by three generations of Wyeths and others American illustrators and painters at the Brandywine River Museum. Like old books? Visit Macaluso Rare and Fine Books or the Baldwin's Book Barn on the way to West Chester. Don't forget Longwood Gardens.
Great Restaurants You Can Walk To. Getting hungry? We have many wonderful restaurants, many with mushroom specialties (we are the mushroom capital of the world). I grew up in the area so I know it through and through. I look forward to seeing you soon. You will have a great time in Kennett Square - it is the greatest! Some of my favorites... mushroom bisque at the Half Moon...the crabs cakes at the Kennett Inn...create a meal at Newton's or the Vegetariano sandwich at Porabello's.

Nightime Entertainment Too!
If you like live music in an intimate setting, you are going to love the Kennett Flash, a new 100 seat listening venue for local, regional and national entertainers, just a short walk from our B&B. They have a Blues Jam every Monday night, Open Mic on Sundays and visiting artists on Friday and Saturday nights. Oh, and you can see Independent Films there on Wednesday nights and Sunday afternoons too!

Read What Our Guest Are Saying About Us
Dear Rosemary,
I just wanted to thank you again for a wonderful stay at Stebbins-Swayne House. It was a welcoming place for my friends and me to reconnect. We loved listening to the stories about the history of the house and Kennett Square. What a fun place to live. I felt as though I were visiting an old friend as we stood in your kitchen watching you prepare our delicious breakfast.
You are truly the ultimate innkeeper. Thanks again for your hospitality.
Sincerely,
L.P.
My girlfriend and I had a great time staying at the Stebbins-Swayne house. The house is kept in perfect condition. It's very inviting and cozy. The room we stayed in (Cottage Room) was very nice. There's a little closet for your things, a sitting area and a nice, comfortable bed. The bathroom is just outside the room in a little private hallway. The innkeeper, Rosemary, was very friendly and accommodating. She knows the area very well; It's like boarding with your very own personal travel agent! This is the third B&B we've stayed at in the area and so far this one was the best.

We had a delightful stay at Stebbins-Swayne during our "Mother-daughters" trip in August. Rosemary was a very gracious host and very good cook. She provided great information about area attractions/restaurants and make a very yummy breakfast, although it was a little on the small side (good size for us, but I could see how a man would leave a little hungry). The rooms were very nicely decorated and extremely clean, which is a must! The room that accommodated three people was very comfortable with a queen and a daybed. The location is very convient to the main shops in Kennett Square and only a few minutes to Longwood Gardens. I would definitely stay again if I were to visit Kennett Square again!

We didn't want to leave! This cozy home-away-from-home was just perfect for a weekend get away. It's within a 5-min walking distance from adorable little shops and excellent restaurants in Kennett Square and is near the beautiful Longwood Gardens and lots of other wonderful sites. Rosemary was most gracious and welcoming -- and we're still talking about her 5-star breakfast! Highly recommended!

The Stebbins-Swayne B&B is top notch. It's only a couple blocks from the Kennett Square shops, but away from the noise of traffic driving by. A very short drive to the local wineries, Longwoods Gardens, and Winterthur, makes it an ideal location to explore the area.
The house is beautiful and rooms were clean, comfortable, and as shown on the website photos. The private bath was really nice too. Rosemary cooks delicious breakfast every morning, something different, fresh, great! She also has excellent suggestions on local happenings and directions to nearby attractions.
